Legislative Update
MCS legislative efforts are aimed to protect the rights of chiropractic consumers, seeking advocacy and parity in the healthcare market for patients and providers. Come to this section of the website to stay informed regarding our legislative efforts. Before taking any action on your own, wait for specific direction from the MCS, so we can work together and be successful. At the appropriate time we will be calling on you for assistance with grass-roots activities. You will be most helpful by allowing us to provide you with the tools you need to relay an informed, consistent message to policymakers, media representatives, and the public.
By Dr. Steven Saro, MCS Legislative Chairman
In spite of the strong opposition, the demand for our services and our market share continue to grow. Why? First and foremost the public, our patients, want chiropractic care. The MCS strongly advocates for fair treatment of the chiropractic profession at every level of government, (legislative and administrative), with the media, insurers, HMO's, municipalities, policy makers, etc.
There isn't a guideline or policy change that occurs in government or at an insurance company that we don't fight tooth and nail to affect. When you are tempted to ask what has the MCS done for us lately, please try to keep in mind the David vs. Goliath battle the MCS fights every day for your well being,.
To the member doctors who regularly sacrifice their time and hard earned money to support our legislative endeavors, THANK YOU. There are many unsung heroes who attend fundraisers and cultivate personal relationships with elected officials who carry water for our profession. Unfortunately, there are too many chiropractors (members and non-members) who chose not to get involved.
My goals this year are as follows: 1. to fund our chiropractic PAC to functional levels, so that we can continue to support our many friends in the legislature; 2. to increase the percentage of doctors of chiropractic as MCS members, and to increase the involvement of those members in the MCS; 3. to continue my efforts with the Patrick Administration and the Legislature to improve the economic viability of very chiropractor in Massachusetts.
Please be prepared. In the near future you will be hearing from me or another MCS representative asking for your support and involvement in the MCS. I am confident that with your help we can achieve these ambitious goals.
